Your first acupuncture session is unlike most medical appointments. There are no waiting rooms, no reception queues, and no repeating your history to someone who has never met you. At Zen by Omnia, your specialist comes to you — and the first visit is designed to give them everything they need to begin treating you properly. Here is exactly what to expect.
Before Your Visit
Wear loose-fitting clothes and have a light snack beforehand. Bring a short list of the health concerns that are most pressing for you.
A list of any current medications or supplements
A note of your sleep patterns, digestion, and stress levels over the past few weeks
Any previous diagnoses or blood test results relevant to your concern
You do not need to prepare a room in any elaborate way. A space where you can lie comfortably — a bed, a sofa, or a treatment table if you have one — is sufficient. Your specialist brings all equipment.
The Diagnosis: Pulse and Tongue
Your acupuncturist will ask you to show your tongue and will feel your pulse on both wrists to determine the current state of your internal organs health. These traditional Chinese medicine diagnostic tools have been used for thousands of years. There are 28 pulse types in TCM, each providing insight into possible excesses or stagnation in the body. Combined with tongue observation and detailed questioning, the practitioner diagnoses your pattern and decides which acupoints and treatments will address that imbalance. This is why two people with the same complaint — say, headaches — might receive completely different treatments depending on whether their issue stems from stress, digestive weakness, or poor circulation.
The Treatment Itself
Once your specialist has completed the diagnosis and explained their plan, treatment begins. Fine, sterile needles are placed at selected points — often on the arms, legs, abdomen, or back. You may feel a dull ache, tingling, warmth, or heaviness around the point, which TCM
calls the 'de qi' sensation. This means the treatment is working and the sensation will fade quickly. Most patients find the session deeply relaxing. Needles are typically retained for 20 to 30 minutes, after which your specialist will remove them and discuss what they observed and what the next steps are.
Your Written Treatment Plan
At the end of your visit, you will receive a written treatment plan covering what was treated, why, and what lifestyle or dietary adjustments to consider before your next session. This is a core part of the Zen by Omnia experience — not an optional extra.
After Your Visit
In the 24 to 48 hours after treatment, drink plenty of water, rest if you feel the need, avoid strenuous exercise, and notice how you feel — both physically and emotionally. Some patients feel immediate improvement. Others notice gradual shifts over several sessions. Both are entirely normal. What matters is continuity — your specialist tracks your progress visit by visit, adjusting your plan as your body responds.
